With a price around $250 (we found it even under $200 on sale - see below), the Exerpeutic 1000XL magnetic elliptical machine is one of the very few cross trainers equipped with pulse sensors. Moreover, in this price range it is hard to find a heavy duty machine that accomodates users up to 300 lbs!

Before we had a chance to test this machine, we wondered how the Exerpeutic's engineers created a heavy duty and high capacity machine that supports users up to 300 pounds, at such a low price. After the review we figured out that they have cut costs by economizing wherever possible. It includes a simple computer console with small LCD display and what I most do not like the covers that are made of a cheap plastic. To be honest, for the price I can't expect a super fancy cross trainer. Overall, it is good enough for a home gym. When it comes to the stability and solidity of construction we have no remarks.

The Exerpeutic 1000XL elliptical machine is equipped with magnetic resistance system with 8 manually adjusted levels. The precision balanced flywheel and V- belt drive provide a smooth and quiet operation, but 13-inch stride length wouldn't be long enough for tall people. The flywheel is dual directional for frontwards and backwards workout capability. The LCD display is clear and it is placed at a right angle. It tracks: time, speed, distance, calories burned, scan, and target zone heart rate monitoring provided by pulse pads on the additional stationary handle bars.
